Albenita Rene Rael, the former Republican candidate for Quay County treasurer and former deputy treasurer, was charged with two felonies and jailed after being accused of altering county records so a property she owned wouldn't be placed in a state delinquent-tax list.

A no-bond arrest warrant was issued shortly after she was charged with tampering with public records and fraud. She was booked into the Quay County Detention Center that same day.

Both charges are fourth-degree felonies that can lead up to 18 months in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
